Two-tone steering wheel complete and installed
I've completed another item in a growing list of interior mods. Here'* my new steering wheel:
Well, the color of the vinyl isn't very close to the airbag so that will take some getting used to. The vinyl has a white fabric backing that can be seen through some of the stitches. I'm hoping to find some color matched dye to remedy that problem. There are a couple of minor blemishes too but I'm going to live with them. The good news is that the feel of the wheel has greatly improved. The vinyl is very soft like glove leather
I should have the two-tone door panels back from the embroiderer in a couple of days so keep an eye out for that.

Each time I see your mods you never cease to amaze me. Take that car to it'* original Pontiac designer when you are done (will you ever be? ) and he'll be drooling, asking what it is.

The vinyl was cut into 4 strips after measuring the diameter of the wheel and figuring out how much green I wanted. I subtracted about an inch from this measurement so the vinyl would stretch. Once the strips were sewed together, it was stretched over the wheel and the spray adhesive was applied. The stitching involved quite a bit of manual dexterity. It involves using two needles going back and forth just like you would lace up your shoes. The wheel is not easy hold so a buddy to help comes in very handy.
The green parts were much easier to stitch as the 3 1/4" width is just right. The tan however was a nightmare. I had to trim to size around all of the obsticles with a very shitty pair of scissors. I did make a couple of trimming errors but you would have to give it a good look to find them.
