If your speedometer has been calibrated for 225/60 R 16 tires, replacing them with 245/40 R 18'* would result in the speedometer reading high by 3.55%.
Same as with the speedometer, if your odometer has been calibrated for 225/60 R 16 tires, replacing them with 245/40 R 18'* would result in the odometer reading high by 3.55%.
Do you think you could go with a taller tire to fill out the wheel well more?? Because you are losing .91" the the 245/40/18s...

I believe SLP sells a box so you can electronically readjust your speedo.

Somebody mentioned needing 16'* to clear a 12" rotor? 17'* will barely make it. 16'* won't. I was heading that way myself when I found the RSM rotors. I got more stopping power and better overall braking without going with a larger diameter. Hectors Powerslots would be great, too. Same design.
Personally, I think 17'* look GREAT on a Bonneville. My personal feeling is 18'* are just too much, but the whole idea is what YOU want on YOUR OWN car. Play around with photoshop, and if it looks good to you, GO FOR IT! That car is an extension of your personality (I'm quoting 95BonnevilleSESC.....god help me).
HOWEVER.....if you put a freaking wing on the back of your Bon, I'll jump your ****!

I bought the rims pictured above, but the seller was a dumb ***. First he said the tires were excellent, then downgraded to fair. I received them and some of the wires were showing on two of them. Got an estimate from discount tire for $900 for new goodyears. Got kinda pissed then... Later I cleaned the wheels because the seller was too lazy to do it, and realized that the bolt pattern was 5x4.5(114.3). I finally got a hold of him and am going to send them back. This fool was didn't believe me that they were 5x4.5 because he had them on a 95 GP. I told him if he wouldn't have been a dumbshit and cleaned up the wheels before selling them he would have realized his goof up. So unless anybody knows anyone who wants a really nice set of 18x8.5s with a bolt pattern of 5x4.5, I'm gonna send em back. I think I'm going to put the money towards a series 2 ssei!

the smaller dia. tire will actually help you. this is the easiest way to change gear ratio in a car.the smaller the tire dia. , the quicker it will be off the line.
personally , i just got a set of 255/40ZR17 pirelli P6000 tires and mounted them on primax 684 rims. the tires were on sale at discount tire for 100 bux each with free shipping. mounted them up and test fitted them on my car, they fit great, just wish i could put them on now , but we still have snow,salt and anti-skid here,:(
also the lower profile tire will improve handling a great deal, with the shorter side wall, you have less tire flex and will definitly tighten up your ride in cornering.

The only factory 16" wheel that will clear 12" rotors are those Grand Prix 5 spoke ones. Other than that you are going aftermarket wheels. Really no need to go to 12" because you are still single piston. Better to do slotted since you are not killing the surface area but the slots allow the gas that is created with the heat as you are stopping to escape.
