someone a long time ago use some kind of mesh on the lower bumper openings it looked pretty good in fact it was the only one I ever seen

i used duplicolor chrome paint it said on the bottle it was for body trim pieces
i took off the grille, cleaned it really well, taped it up and used three coats
very happy with the results
