Default My New Project

Picked up a 1989 K2500 as a project truck for $500. Story is the truck was stolen and stripped of its drivetrain. I plan on dropping in a 5.3L and 5 speed.

Not wasting any time tearing down

Painting up the engine bay and underside of hood. Outside of the truck isn't the factory color, the ugly greenish color in the previous picture was stock.

That'* all, just thought I'd share since I haven't been around here in a while.

Looks great, that is some project! I had a 91 K2500- wish I still had it.

In case you need them, a company out of Michigan makes laser bent brake and fuel lines that are exact oem matches.

Are you keeping the 4X4 or converting it to 2WD?

Thankfully being a southern vehicle there is absolutely no rust on this thing, but thanks I'll keep that in mind!

Psssh, why is that even a question? 4x4 of course. The front driveshaft was still with it, laying in the engine bay, just need a transfer case.

This was how the thieves stole it, back glass was broken from when the kid was loading pipe in the bed. Figured I'd get safelite out to replace it ASAP to reduce the possibility of water damage to the cab.

Sliding glass really ain't my thing

Nice project. Great solid truck to build. Although I'm in AZ now I'm from Wisconsin. So I know rust. It can kill an otherwise great vehicle to build.

Grabbed just a few things from pull a part today. Totaled about $250 for all. Transfer case, electric fans, driveshaft, updated washer bottle, radiator mounts, headlight switch, cruise control cable, updated battery tray (required for new washer bottle), and a few plastic trim pieces. And lots of bolts and nuts, of course (If I take it off, I take it with me)

That rear glass looks a lot better than the sliding glass would have!
Nice score on the parts!
