It Came In Yesterday
Hii Gang,
I got this in yesterday....
to replace this....
...finally! It goes on today! Now, I need to find a CENTER CAP!! What do you think? Was it worth the $160?
Thanks,
John

Well, the construction matches perfectly, of course. The wheel was painted to the original factory spec for that color. Problem is, as you might guess, the other 3 wheels have been on the road for 13 years, and all the brake dust and road grime and all that have discolored the wheels. So the color is not a perfect match...the others have almost a copper tint to the gold, while the newbie is pure gold. I am using ColorX and other compounds to try and get the originals back to the original color- I may even try to clay them. Also, the newbie has been coated with a clear coat material, so the shine is wonderful, but I can only polish the originals so much.
All that said, I don't think I could have gotten much closer with a reconditioned wheel. It would be like tryng to replace a fender with one that was painted to factory spec, and hoping it will match the rest of the body. It won't match.
I will say that The Wheel Exchange in Raliegh, NC. did the best they could, and with the shipping and packing and the like-new condition of the wheel, they met my expectations.
Thanks,
John

A couple of shots with the new wheel (stole a center cap from the drivers side):
It isn't a perfect color match, but it sure looks close to me! Now, onto the next project on the list. Let'* see...repaint the spoiler...repar/replace bumper...PDR the rear door? Oh where to start?
Notice the tastefully understated etched glass decal!
Thanks,
john
