poor gas mileage
Ok my wife drives a 2005 AWD Chevy Equinox. For whatever reason this truck seems to get the poorest gas mileage. Now I know my wife has somewhat of a lead foot but she averages between 190 to 210 miles per tank. the car is rated to get about 19 mpg in the city and has a 17 gallon tank. The oil gets changed regularly and tires are properly inflated. A friend of mine said I should put a tank of premium gas with some of that additive that helps clean something I dont remember right now and if that didnt work to try new spark plugs and upgraded wires. What do you guys think?

Alright. So we're saying its getting around 9-10 average? What is the amount of city driving done? All wheel drive will take down mileage by alot, but something is definitely wrong since I dont even think I could GET my truck to get mileage that bad.
How many miles?
What maintenance has been done? Filters?
Any information that could be added would be great.

Thanks For getting back so quick wjcollier,
I knew there were some things I was forgetting. It has been awhile since I checked the air filter but the last time I did it was fine and it was getting those miles back then. We live maybe 5 minutes from her job which she does have to drop and pick up my 2 kids from their respective sitters but they are on they way to her job and within like 1 minute from each other. So a lot of her driving is city but she isnt get anywhere near the specs for it and I also took into account that she has AWD but you would think that GM would have taken this into account when they put out the specs for the truck. As far as maintenance the only things that have been done are oil changes, it does have about 60k on the ticker which I think is high but not by much. Do you think it may need a tune up?

My aunts Equinox is doing terrible now too. I think that it may be the fuel for the winter. Otherwise it has been meeting or beating the expected gas mileage. But also getting into it a little pulls it way down too. Tell her to keep it under 3k RPM and it should help. Otherwise check tire presure. That was a very sensitive issue this summer with hers. And the air filter is also a very good thing to check.

Thanks for the advise guys! Yea I tell her all the time to lay off the pedal and that will help but she is hard headed . But she has been getting poor mileage for as long as I can remember even back in the summer months. she drove it down to Florida this summer and averaged about 320 to 330 miles on the highway so something isn't right she should get that in the city. could it be the spark plugs and or wires? possibly a bad muffler?
