As of yesterday at 2:33 PM the Buick engine restoration project was complete. There were some problems like faulty pintle caps and o-rings falling into the intake valve galley (# 2 and 4), and were gotten using a small flex cam and a dentist pick.
Coolant was added and checked carefully for leaks. There was one coming from the thermostat housing (which was new) and also where the drain **** is on the bottom of the radiator (also new) but both seemed to dry up as of this afternoon. The car was run for about two hours in the driveway while the battery got a charge, and was taken to the gas station where it got 15.75 of 91 octane fuel.
The new auto-dim mirror with compass was displaying N and NE so I went over to the school and went counter-clockwise in the parking lot 3 times like the directions said. Sure enough it displayed C for about 5 seconds then dash then X. The display turned off then back on showing *, the direction I was facing.
I decided that I needed to make sure it drove so I drove it down to the local 99 cent store. No problems. I got it back home, and checked for coolant and oil mixing. Everything was normal. Topped off the coolant in the reservoir, and let it rest over night.
This morning, I hopped in and drove it to work. I had forgotten how smooth and quiet this car was! Minor hesitation after 40 and it got a little worse on the way to work as well as on the way home. I'm suspecting that it is the missing EGR gasket that I know I bought and put on, but had to take the EGR off when I had to fish the parts that fell in the intake galley out. No problem, Gasket ordered on Rockauto.com, as well as new wiper blades for the summer.
It was so gratifying to smell all of the new parts and newly painted parts heat up. I had to go out several times Sunday evening and look at the car to actually make sure I wasn't dreaming! 3 years it took me to do this project. 1 year was wasted on waiting for people saying they could fix it and never showed.
I was complimented by a co-worker this afternoon. They said that they love how this car looks, and they could tell I took good care of it. Looks like a brand new car. Well.. it kind of is! 115770 miles as of 05-08-17

I watch this guy on Youtube all the time. He posts some very informative things! Although, not GM specific, he still gets the point across. THANKS CHRISFIX!
