I'm finally getting back to repairing my 1997 Bonneville SE 3.8L naturally aspirated windshield wipers that will not turn off more times than they do. As i posted earlier I've replaced the motor with a new one but it had no effect. I'm trying to avoid replacing the switch so I'm going to try the pulse board. Problem is after searching for hours on line those seem not to exist. Does anyone no where I can get one or even if they exist? Motors for this car do not come with the pulse board. Suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
I wonder what happens if you wiggle and rotate the wiper switch little tiny bits when it is in the off position. If doing that fixes it, then it'* the switch.
I'm not a fan of diagnostics that start with "I have this problem, but I don't want to replace that part so I'll replace other parts" before diagnosis.
I understand completely. The diagnosis is that there is a component in the wiper system that is faulty and not being a certified technician or have access to information and testing procedures I'm forced to the process of elimination starting with the least expensive and/or easiest to replace part. As for the switch I've put it through all combinations of scenarios I can come up with. I am hesitant to dig into the switch because of the air bag in the steering wheel mixed with my lack of knowledge of that system. That has the potential to be deadly.
I guess all in all I'm just on this forum to pick the brains of those that have the experience and knowledge I lack.
Thanks
Ah I see, okay well the air bag is easy enough to deal with:
1. Disconnect battery (I always do this with a door open therefore dome light on, then I imagine that dome light sucks some residual energy out once I disconnect)
2. Unscrew screws that hold the air bag in
3. Disconnect yellow connectors
4. Proceed as if on a non-airbag car
I'll see if I can find the wiper pulse board etc. in the service manual that I have, or maybe someone else will beat me to it.
