Default Parasitic Drain

2000 Pontiac Bonneville SLE. Car developed a parasitic battery drain.A new message "Service theft system" appeared on the instrument monitor. After eliminating the alternator and battery I used an ammeter test on the fuse/relay compartment under the seat. After monitoring the voltage and amperage, waiting for electronice to shut down, the amperage draw continued for over an hour at 4.49 amps as the voltage dropped. After pulling all the relays, number 40 which says "parking lights" dropped the amperage draw to 1.89 amps. A fuse # 27 "audio" dropped it another 1.38 amps down to ..05 which is upper range acceptable. I charged the battery back up and removed the static charge and was reading 12.60 volts. The next morning with the relay and fuse removed, the battery voltage was 12.48 and the car started fine.I am thinking that whatever causes the power to shut down about 15min after the ignition is shut off is not working properly. What triggered the message about "service Theft system" in the beginning?

I would be looking at the BCM. You may have something not allowing it to sleep.

Well, the problem finally showed itself after a lengthy cat and mouse game. I dislike electrical problems to begin with but even worse when they dissappear when looking for them. The amperage test meter finally showed the drain and was able to find two fuses in the (under the rear seat) panel. Owners manual showed they controlled the parling lanos and the other "audio" Aftre pulling these two fuses and letting the car sit for two days and no battery voltage drop. then the third day I went to start the car with the fuses still out and barely turned over. I took Carfixer 007 advise and ordered a ner GM BCM. After waiting 8 days I calleed Summit Racing and they then tols me it wouldn't be available until afetr Valentines day. I was able to get one (GM) at Auto Zone for $260.00 ouch! The BCM is located on the passenger side panel near the glove box. All is well and running great again ! Thanks Carfixer007 !!
