Missed this last night. No repaired pics. I was laying out tools for the reinstall so the car could go up the lift (tell you more about that in a minute).

Knocked it together with a hammer, cleaned it up, ran a bead down the middle of the crack, and two support beads to either side. Both cracks were done the same way.

So when I pulled into the shop with my tool bag, Jerry asked how long it'd take me to get the front manifold out. I told him 15 minutes. He rolled his eyes in disbelief and just chuckled. And then he pulled out his digital watch from his pocket and started the stopwatch.

* H I T. Manifolds are hot, and he damn well knows it. I went for it anyway. Sometime around 13 or 14 minutes, I was down to ONE thing. The EGR pipe to the front manifold. Guess who didn't pack a big crescent wrench? Guess who held out on 'loaning' me one from his box until 17 minutes had elapsed?

Anyway, reassembly (including torquing the front manifold) happened in 9:40 to starting the car. Then we put it up and did the rest of the work.

He cheated.

Anyway the good news is that I got the crossover repaired, the front manifold gasket was still in great shape, Everything on that end back together. New cat (farther back) new intermediate pipe hanger, exhaust cutout Y pipe welded in, O2 bung for the wideband welded in, cracks in the resonator welded up.

Now I just have a mess of wires to run through the exhaust tunnel into the center console. Haven't really decided where to run them, but I'll figure that out as I go. I should be testing both the wideband O2 and the electric cutout sometime on Saturday.

Any idea as to why the resonator cracked? That seems odd to me.

Just a slight crack around the rear flange. No biggie. That thing is about 3 years old, and lots of abuse in that time. If you recall how and where it was installed, and what had to be done to it to make it fit, you'll understand a bit more. Those cracks were on the tail end, just before the turn in the intermediate pipe.

Something I was just pointing out to greyhare here at work.

Look very carefully at the heatshield above the cat and cutout, just above the "P" in QTP:

Now notice the 3lb sledge between my wideband O2 sensor and the cutout sitting on the lift:

The end result is that when the blockoff plate is installed (off-season) I lose no ground clearance (and have actually GAINED some by raising the entire exhaust about 1").

With the cutout valve installed (during the 'season'), I give up about 1/4" of exposure on the bottom edge of the flange. The tunnel was modified slightly with a BFH to allow for this.

I was wondering how your new supercharger paint was holding, and if you have had a chance to start testing its advantages/disadvantages to the stock paint?

With only 150 miles on it, it'* too soon to say. Zero miles on the TB being tested with the same finish. I want to know how it holds up to multiple hot/cool cycles, and several washings.
