Plus I wanted the guage higher up so I could keep my eyes on the road/track...especially at WOT. To look down at the AC vent and then backup seems dangerous to me.

I'm not so sure you need to overlap the lip with the way you cut, fit and molded.
Looks very good... if it does crack, then you've learned and can surely fix/redo and make it even better.
