And a long enough cable, yep. I think Serial cableing can go 25ft. Although, the problem you have, is that you would want to drive the car to get the most accurate readings. You could still bring a Desktop PC in your car with you.. but it would be a bitch, not to mention the power consumption MAY screw with some of your power ratings.

just find a friend who has a laptop and see if you can borrow it for a day. Or pick up a cheap laptop from a computer store. If it is just doing data logging it doesnt have to be that fast. Pick up a good scantool and you will be all set.

That is quite cheep. A friend of mine got a few parts here and there and built a system for just over $200. I've been looking into an AEM one for about $400 but it fits into my gauge pods so I feel it is worth the extra cash.
