What makes a fender well intake?
I don't mean to insult anyone, especially not Intense, and in fact the main reason I'm asking this question is to find out if I've done anything wrong. I set up my own FWI for far less than the going rate for kits.
I've been thinking about it, and I can't figure out why I'd pay $179.99 for a FWI. Is it the heat insulation? Is there any more heat insulation with one as opposed to any other tubing, for that matter? I have a huge K&N conical filter in the place of my canister, which is still in the engine bay, and a tube leads from the filter to the throttle body. This all cost me about $70 for the $40 filter, $20 tube, and $10 urethane couplers.
I believe the tube is a bit on the cheap side, but I shoved a thermostat into it, and it measured out to be only 10C hotter than the outside air. I still haven't gotten a scantool, but I have been scouring ebay for a long time in the hopes that I could finally pick one up. Aside from the non-scantool temp reading, I believe everything else is done right. And even if the plastic is not good enough, couldn't an exhaust shop put in a metal tube? I know one that'* offered to do it with so-called proper heat shielding for about $15.
Thanks!

Lots of people buy the intense tubing by the foot and then hook that direclty to the TB and the filter...much cheaper that way but you dont get the coupler.

for the $179 price you get:
9" K&N Filter ($34 on the INTENSE site)
Custom molded throttle body adapter (custom, probably worth $30)
30" of INTENSE 3.5" intake tubing ($12 a foot, so $30)
PCM tray (16.99 on the INTENSE site)
Two thin-walled aluminum couplers (probably worth $5, they are only pieces of cutoff aluminum pipe
All necessary clamps. (probably worth $10, they are high quality clamps)
Easy to follow instructions
that totals out to about $130... I have no idea why people pay that much
I bought mine used for $50

If you price it all out, yes you are paying for the coupler.
Worth it? Sure if you want something you know will last and not move.
Also keep in mind someone needs to make money on this deal.
