What free modds can I do?
I have a '97 SSEi and was wondering, what free modds can I do to the car? Or what are some cheap modds I can do? Thanks for your help/advice/suggestions.

Free is a non-existing word.
You can gut the air box if you like, then drop in a K&N replacement filter. Maybe a Gatorback belt to prevent slippage, but you really need to spend some money if you wanna scoot. Good news is its really cheap to gain an extra 30-40 hp from your L67.

yes gut the airbox.. remove the MAF screen.. and if you want, run a dryer duct to do a ram air kinda style.. ( affective from 60+kmh ).. like All says.. no other mods won't cost you from that point on.. it depends on your budget.. first thing I suggest thou is change to a 180 T-stat.. there won't be a performance gain.. but it just ensures your car running cooler..

I will look into gutting the air box and removing the MAF screen. Does a K&N really make a difference in freeing up air flow? Now my curiosity is spiked and am wonder what I have to do to free up those 30-40 hp? Thanks and keep 'em comin!

Yes.. K&N does make a difference.. to gain 30-40HP.. you'll need to mod your intake, open up the exhaust.. and get a smaller pulley (3.4 for now ).

Guess I need to finally give in and buy a K&N filter. Do you think its wise to add a smaller pulley on 175xxxkm engine? What must be done to the intake exactly? I was concidering a Z28 dynomax muffler, do you think this will free up the air flow? Thanks again for everyones suggestions, there greatly appreciated.
Jeff.
Drifter - What did you do to get the flashing fog lights? I think that looks bad azz!!! A company in the US make a kit called Wig-Ways and it strobes all lights like your local PD, the only draw back is $250 US...ouch!

Check out the Tech Info article http://www.bonnevilleclub.com/techinfo/?article=52 for the suggested first mods.
MAF Screen removal and gutting the airbox are good, free mods. Not gonna turn it into a Ferrari or anything, but you'll feel the difference....

Well, just finished removing the MAF and I also replaced the thermostat to 180*. I have to let the sealer dry for 1hr then I will take it for a "light" test drive and check for leaks. If the weather cools down or humidity drops I will G-tech the car tonight and see if there is a performance increase "feel" wise.
Any tips on how to gut the air box, like special tools or techniques?
Thanks.
