Yes. The MAF isn't suspended in the MAF support spanning the mouth of the TB. It'* in a 'bump' in the side. There'* been no data showing that either is an advantage over the other to date, but there is a very obvious manufacturing cost advantage to the '99 style.

Yup, saw that today when I pulled the MAF screen from my parts car.
Also, I found the previous owner of the modded GTP car and the SC was ported on the outlet side.
