Boy, I sure hope that wasn't aimed at me...

I did not make up the term "Dumb"

It is not meant as a derogatory remark,
it simply means leaving out the modern computer,
and all the computer controlled ignition and fuel delivery systems and replacing them with old school componets.

This is a common practice when putting modern engines in older cars.

Peace out, CD

wouldnt that be the other way around? I would thing the 3800 would win in the 1/8th and the 4.9 would win in the 1/4 with its longer legs? whats the reasoning behind that?
I believe that the 4.9'* are Pushrod engines just like the 3800 is. It has more torque than the */c 3800, but less horsepower, which is why explanation that marik gave seems accurate to me.
whoops, sorry, I just assumed it was a DOHC design, or at least made a lot of top end power, like all the other N* engines, I guess I should do my homework before I post.

not directed at you, but at the comment itself. i've heard it before and always found it to be a derogitory comment, as though mechaniacal fuel metering was somehow a stupid way to go.

If a Caddy V8 Deville can get 16/26 MPG, which is 3/2 MPG worse than a 3800. I would expect that, putting the V8 in would weigh the same, or less. It would make that V8 get almost 29-30 MPG highway. (maybe/maybe not).

Now, my debates are whether i should go ahead or not.. It would be fun, but would it be fun to work on. Is it cheaper? etc? Those are questions i'd ask myself. If i go to the yard, and search for both, and lets say i found 2 rear ended cars. A Bonny, and Caddy. The bonny is a 96+ newer, and the Caddy is a 91 (rounds there). To do a L67 (i think) of a SC3800 that makes 240 HP and 230 TQ swap, its going to be alot of work. A 96 is OBD2, more stuff, more complex.
A 91 Caddy 4.9 might be less complex, since its OBD1, and it might be cheaper.
I have no idea. I'd just weigh the options of whats more practical, and cheaper.

I love the 3800, its one of my favorite engines, its bulletproof, and torquey. But A V8 under my hood sounds cool, both in wording, and sound!

Let me dream, its fun!
