temporary governor disablement
ok, something drifter said in another thred gave me an idea. how does the governer work, is it RPM based or VSS signal based??? my idea was to wire a switch between the VSS, then all you would have to do (if the governer is based on the VSS) is open the switch, can anyone tell me if this would work or not??? i know this would also disable the ABS system, but since it would only be used in conditions where the ABS system would most likely not be required, it would be an acceptable risk. also, it would kill the speedo, would the speedo come back online when the switch was closed or would you have to restart the car??? now, tell me where the wires from the VSS are and what problems might come up, after that feel free to call me a crazy ***** if u want

So if you disconnect the VSS from the DRV then the LPM and the RLd would be free. Thus when you go WOT for a long time, the GOV would MIA and....... you know what..... i don't even know what i'm talking about... Time for a nap.

ok, so it will not shift, but it would stay in whichever gear it was already in right??? that would mean u would only have another 1500 RPM in 3rd, or whatever the engine could pull in 4th, ethier way better than the 108 or so u get now. would loss of a VSS signal cause the TCC to come out of lock-up after it had already reached it??? if not, you could get to 108, let the tranny go into 3rd or 4th and lock-up then hit the switch and accelerate. No Occifer, I didn't know how fast I was going, my speedo just stopped working...

The new TAPShift on the '04 GP Comp G works in a similar way. It intercepts the shift commands from the PCM and when in Perf mode in allows the thumb switches control the actual timing. It does disable the governor...on the GP the gov works in standard mode, in perf in doesn't. I'm seeing a retrofit coming on.....

You could get a custom burned PCM from DHP with the removed governor and you would also have all of the other things DHP does. Plus you would have your ABS, TCC, The tranny could shift gears, and you would have a speedometer. If you guys really want, and you can set up a closed road where I can legally test the top speed of the GTP for free in my area, my father and I would probably have no problem doing so, we already have the limiter removed, and we have 420 supercharged horses, and 450 supercharged lb. ft. so I think we could tell you about as fast as you will ever get your car to go. Let me know...
