Slicks vs. Drag Radials

DOT approved drag radials or any DOT "race tire" will only last 2k-3k miles on the street.
A few days at the track will reduce that significantly.
If you are only going a few miles to your local track they can be driven to the track and home. If you need to go farther than that they will wear very fast and may be dangerous.
Dot race tires were never intended to be used on the street; they are for racing classes that require DOT "street" tires.
If you can get slicks that fit your car and can afford them they are still the best way to go.

1/2 way between a drag radial and a summer tire....

I believe I'm going to pickup a set of these for the 97 next year.
(The g-force T/A KD has even bettern dry handling, but has poor wet handling.)
