Shift Points For L36 Too High?
I was driving along and I decided to floor it and go fast for the hell of it. Well the car revved up to 6 then shifted, I noticed that it was struggling for breath (not actually but a methapor) and then it shifted then it caught its breath again and roared along. Now I'm curious if you lowered the shift point to about 5250-5500, I think it would be quicker. But for those who have a L36 and a PCM, the PCM raises the shift point and the rev limiter to 6000 and 6200 respectively. Now I hope I'm not naive in thinking this, IMO the sweet spot is between 2500-5250. Why not keep the transmission in those areas then would it be faster?

I do know that that is way past the L36'* torque curve, but I don't know why you would want to be that high in the RPM'* since that is true. Sorry, this was no help....lol

I have the 95 with the weird Bastard PCM OBD1.5 LMAO... Its not as held back as an 96-99 PCM... I didn't think they were held back that much untill I got a nice ride in one and was suppries at how it acted when the pedal was on the floor... Especially after I was used to the 95 pulling right up on the red... Also keep in mind that the 4T65-E is controled a bit diffrently than the 4T60-E... And I believe for you Torque management may be a factor... I believe that a PCM would help you...
On the shift points, you engine is making its peak HP at 5200 Rpms... And the torque curve is flat, but up in the revs it does drop off a bit...
Are you planning on getting a PCM...?
Also I had an updated GM chip in my 95 untill I noticed that the PCM was the culprit with my issues... with the new PCM I went back to the original chip... The Update locked me out of first gear kickdown around 35-36 mph... With the original I could hit it at 40 some of the time... either way there were some changes, it took them a while to get all of the part numbers sorted out for my 95 to even get the updated chip.. So who knows... But it seems that just about all of the 95'* shift like mine

I am indeed interested in getting a PCM. Not immediate but I'll get one before I set off for college. I want a INTENSE PCM and I was looking at their description and I saw that they raised it. I now know that the L36 makes its peak hp at 5200 as you mentioned and you mentioned that the tq does drop off. Torque is key, so why can't we keep it in the fat torque curve so it'll accelerate quickly instead of having it go up to 6000 and lose a lot of torque (I don't know how much torque loss there is at 5250 compared to its peak torque level)
I know the S2 are high revvers compared to S1 (I think?) but when it'* up there, it'* not very helpful in gaining speed.
Where does it make peak tq, anyone know?

Torque gets you moving. After that, horsepower is what matters, not torque.

i definately agree with cody. top of first isnt ususally too bad, but the top of 2nd is bad. it falls flat on its face.
