Replace '01 Aurora Engine With An '04 GXP 4.6L
Just to let everyone know how it went...
The 4.6 is in the car & running using the original Aurora (Siemens) PCM. Waiting on a tuned one.
It was almost a complete swap, engine for engine, but the Pontiac wiring harness wasn't compatible with the Aurora so we used the Aurora valve covers & harness, which works very well. The '04 tranny had cooler lines but my radiator didn't have the on board cooler. So we bought the upgraded, aftermarket radiator. As it turned out, the one with the cooler is the only one available now & it slipped right in.
The only other mods were ported heads & a 3" exhaust system that has a wonderful growl goin' on.
I searched for better cams & found that no one produces them yet, so it'* pretty much stock at this point. The tuned PCM will tell the whole story, and right now it'* amazing after 3700 RPM.
For those of you who are interested in such things, I installed a really nice spoiler on it... but lost almost 3 MPG. That'* a bit of a disappointment and now I have to decide which means more to me... The good look or the better mileage.
Woe is me.
