Performance intake parts have arrived! Update 01-08
Yes, I was so happy when the box of parts arrived on my door step yesterday!
I ordered a Spectre pipe, K&N# RX4750, and a heat shield made by Spectre.
I am wondering if the heat shield will be adequate, as it only covers half of the filter. I suspect it will be turned as you see in the pictures below, to keep the shield towards the heat side of the engine bay.
Do you think this shield will be okay, or should I start dreaming up something different?
Also, if I am planning on mounting the filter this direction, I will likely pick up a smaller windshield washer bottle from a Bonneville not equipped with headlight washers, to free up some space...
(Note: These pics are a little dark. I had to adjust the flash to prevent glare from the chrome pipe & shield)
Oh yes, post installation pics will come!

Thanks for your advice,
Adam

That'* not even remotely close to a heat shield. You may shield it from RADIANT heat from the crossover pipe, but you will still suck in engine bay heat.
You need to COMPLETELY isolate it from engine bay hot air.

Crap. It was late last night and I didn't notice it. That'* chromed plastic piping. The stuff they let you make your own kit out of, isn't it? That'* the worst possible material you can use for an intake. And no, you don't want joints.
That pipe will heatsoak so fast it'* not even funny. Do you have any import tuner ricer friends? I suggest selling it to them.

I say toss it in and see how it performs. If you are happy with the results then thats all that matters, but as wren mentioned, you dont want any joints in the piping.
It will be a snag for the air as it passes over the surface causing the air to become turbulant.
if anything, use this as a temporary intake until you decide if you want a FWI or a CAI with metal piping.

It sounds like the material it'* made out of is just a permeate for heat. If you do use it, be careful of KR.
But the ideal solution would be to get better material. Remember, most of the time, you get what you pay for.

The tube is made from polished aluminum, not plastic:

The inside of the tube is smooth, the connections are there so you can remove a section to shorten the length as necessary.
Perhaps the heat shield would work if I bought one more, so it completely wrapped around the filter, and extended the length of the ends of the shields to cover the front of the filter?
Thanks,
Adam
