not bonne related but GTP vs. GrandAm GT
Ok this is a ridiculous arguement my roomate all of a sudden started yelling at me about. Here goes...
I was looking online at all the GTPs. I found one in my area in really nice shape. Its a 1999. My roomate asked what the interior looked like and I showed him the pic on ebay. He said "what does the speedometer go up to, 180?" I said "no, Probably only 120". I then said that all the GM cars i have seen go up to 120. He then yelled back, "NO way my cousins grand am gt goes up to 180." I then said to him that even though it goes up that high doesnt mean that the car goes that fast. The governor will kick in at about 130. Now he gets really upset and says, "why would they make the sppedo go that high if the car cant do it." I suggested, "because that was the scale gm decided to use plus the car probably had the extra room on the dash" So then he says, "i may not know alot about cars but I know that it goes faster than 130 mph"
So anyways, we went on like that for a while. He still does not realize that the car has a governor at about 130 mph. Someone please back me up on this. And oh yeah there'* more....
I then said that the gtp has a governor at 126 mph and he said it doesnt matter cuz the grand am gt is a better performance car anyway. I was outraged!!! I told him the Grand am gt has a measely 3.4Liter engine while the GTP has a 3.8 L SC engine. He still believes that the grand am will tool the GTP anyday. Please help me out here people. I need to hear some voices of reason!!!!

You know, and I know....now you need to pull his head out of his *** for him, or tell him to put his money where his mouth is. Get some cash out this. This is an absolutely ridiculous argument. He'* horribly misinformed. My car weighs more than a Grand Am or GTP. I'd like to find one of his 'magic grand am'*' and have some fun with it. I've taken 2 stock GTP'* now.
That GTP will blow the freaking doors off of ANY grand am GT any day of the week, becuase of the torque of the L67 power plant. The stock motor in the GT is good for such a light car, but is in a totally different class.
GT in the grand am is more about appearance than performance. GTP is about raw low-end torque. Speed limiters on all these cars will be determined by the rating of the tires the factory shipped the car with. In our case with the SSEi, it'* supposed to be about 128 mph, for H rated tires. I don't know what the tire rating on the SLE, SE or SSE is, but they're limited to 108.
A stock non-supercharged Series 2 Bonneville will walk all over a Grand Am GT, also. It'* a fact of life.
This is like comparing a ford focus SVT to a 5.0 mustang. Same principle. Show him this, then give me his phone number so I can call and laugh at him. If he'* so convinced, tell him to prove it. Then you can look up the performance specs of both and shut him up for good!

That is exactly what i said about the tires!!! I told him the tires fall apart after a certain speed (forgot to mention in my post sorry). I dont think the grand ams came with Z rated tires so the speedo limiter must be 120 or so maybe less. Also, i was looking at this website here. It says that the theoretical top speed of the Grand Am is only 131. This means the engine can only get up to 131 nevermind the frigain limiter. Look for yourself. Thanks for backing me up on this Will. I knew i wasnt nuts!!! http://www.car-videos.com/performanc...p?make=Pontiac

I already told him about the 85 mph thing. His girlfriend took the question for my roomate. She said that the reason they went to 85 was to keep people from trying to "test" their cars. If they saw that it only went to 85 then they wouldnt try to go faster. She thinks it doesnt make sense if a car that cant do 150 should have a speedo that says 150. I think shes nuts. I eventually gave up on it cuz the kid is so frigain stubborn it makes me sick. I know I'm right
