New SSEI Owner and Looking for Advice
Hey Guys,
I just purchased a 2000 SSEI Bonneville off of my boss for $400.00!!!! It needs work but nothing too horrible. I am looking for recommendations on replacement parts for the following items. Let me know what you think I should do, and where the best place to purchase the parts is. I appreciate the help as I am new to owning a Bonneville.
1. Is there any online sites that offer OEM Pontiac parts?
2. Flex Pipe and Catalytic converter... I am leaning towards a high performance set up here possible a 3" with the high flow cat off of 3800performance.com. Any input on this decision would be great.
3. Rear shocks are blown out.... any difference where I get these from? Are there any special parts I should be sure to order with the shocks to ensure an easy install?
4. Supercharger belt and tensioner - There is no belt on the SC - while I am replacing the pulley/tensioner/ belt is there anything better out there then stock?
Thanks!
Steve

1) GM Parts Direct
2) Are you planning to do a 3" downpipe? If so and you have the money skip the downpipe and go straight to headers. Upgrading the exhaust isn't really necessary until you start modding the engine more unless of course you just want it to sound different
3) I do believe if you get the Monroe replacement shocks from an auto store you're better off than buying a new OEM set.
4) Pulley on the */C? You could always put a modular pulley on it from Intense so that you can easily drop pulley size later. Costs $100 link

how bad is the install for headers? I thought I would still need a DP and cat if I bought headers, no?
Also which make header would be recommended? I am a good mechanic but I really do not want to get into a huge headache situation by trying to make a header fit on this bonneville that were not made for it. Who sells a good setup? I can weld so no worries there, but I still might just have someone install it for me because exhaust work sucks!!

Got new air shocks from amazon with the upper mounts, Gabriel or Monroe I don't remember. The price is pretty good for the shocks and the top mount, mine was bad, was $20 compared to $50 each for auto parts.
Gabriel 49228 Air Shock Absorber - 2 Pack
$65.79 In Stock
KYB SM5334 Strut Mount
$21.50

Welcome to the site.
Intense racing and ZZ performance both have a lot of after market parts for the engine.
There are a few choices for headers, TOGs are no longer made, but a re a good choice if you can find them. SLP are good, but expensive. Pacesetters are low price, but there has been problems with fit and leaks. There are some SLP knock offs on Ebay, these are low price and seem to fit better. But I've seen a few that still leak. Nothing that can't be fixed.
If you plan to add more then some power, work on your exhaust. headers, 3" down pipe, 3" free flow cat.

LOL...
Togs and SLP'* are reasonably priced when used. Togs are a pain in the installer'* butt. Takes two people and a few tries at bending the dipstick tube.
IMO pick up the SpeedDaddy headers off Ebay that are made for a Regal/GP. These are SLP knockoffs and many have had great reviews about them. Only thing to keep in mind with them would be to do some looking around and buy the clamps to hold them together.
One last thing get a W body transmission dipstick tube. The one we have isn't bent properly for headers.
If you aren't looking for headers, but are looking to help exhaust flow, the downpipe is not the biggest restriction. The biggest restriction is the front exhaust manifold. ZZP has a Power Log that takes care of the issue. Many of the vendors suggest downpipes because the W body cars have a U bend in their exhaust at the rear O2 sensor. Our Bonnevilles do not have this issue and in most cases a downpipe adds very little performance until many other mods are done.
