which muffler do i need
im looking to get a magnaflow, yes you guessed it, after all this time i m finally thinking about doing a mod *heavenly choir sings*....anyway from my measurements i seem to need a 5x8 oval muffler with a 24 inch body...does that sound right? should i just get the universal fit muffler or are the other kinds a little better? and i take it i need the offset in/center out model with 2.25 ins and outs right? thanks
ok im not finding many 2.25 ins/outs, all i can find is 2.5...will this work on my car? im hoping to somehow swing a free installation with a buddy(im sure one of em knows how) and i also want to know if it will be hard to keep the stock look, meaning i dont want tips i want the pipe to be flush with the bottom of the bumper like it is now.

You may have to adapt from 2.25 to 2.5 because of the SE exhaust. And count on the new muffler being slightly smaller than your stocker. Just make sure your buddy is capable of dealing with the hanger and adapters, and please weld instead of clamp.

so i can make the 2.5 muffler work right? itll just slide over the existing pipe instead of going end to end? and im sure one of them willl be capable of doing it for me, they all have some form of custom exhaust and i dont think they paid someone else to do it...ill probly go ahead and order the muffler pretty soon. found it for 76 bucks shipped and all. and if i have to pay someone to install it then so be it i guess. thanks for the hellp...if i decide to order it ill make it work somehow.
and is the size im looking at the right one? the 5x8 oval with a 24 inch body length, 30 overall and offset/center inlet/outlet?

and yet another question, the muffler will only flow properly one way right? cause i seem to be having trouble with finding a Universal one that has a center inlet and offset outlet, i can find the other way around with a offset inlet and a center outlet but if they only flow one way that does me know good. i think i may go with the 5x11 instead because thats the stock size and i want everything to go in nice and easy, being able to use the stock hangers and whatnot without having to jimmy rig it.

I don't know about the 96 SE but my 93 SE has stock 2.5" piping. So just make sure you actually have 2.25" piping before you order a muffler with that size inlet...

well im pretty sure it has the 2 1/4, i took some measurements tonight. the but i still cant find a muffler with the pattern i want in that size. the 2 and a half will work right? i mean whats a quarter inch? itll weld out right but i took some measurements, and according to my calculations the 5x11x22 should work just fine, its overalll length is 28 so i think, once again according to my calculations, that i can get someone with a welder and grinder to hook it up just fine, i plan on using the stock pipiing and hooking it right up to that. i dont think ill have to mess with any brackets or anything.
heres my chocice for right now, anyone see any probs with it http://www.fle-online.com/MAGNAFLOW/...rs/alu5x11.htm
its the 22in, 2 and 1/2 in/out, with the Center/Offset pattern.for 74.77 and free shipping
and i dont want the dual-exhaust setup, for one thing my bumper doesnt have the cut-outs and for another i dont want the tips hanging down because i have enough trouble keeping the car from dragging as it is, and i just like the "sleeper" look.

We've heard that SE'* have 2.25, and I have a High flow exhaust RPO on mine, so i think part of that was the piping, and the muffler. If you had double outlet on one side on your SE, it'* safe to say you have 2.5

well for right now mine has the 2.25 piping, and the single outlet exhaust. i guess what i want to know is if its possible to use a 2.5 muffler on 2.25 piping? i mean its not that huge of a difference and id think the welding would close the 1/4inch gap. so far my plan would be to cut the stock piping just before it welds to the muffler, then attach the magnaflow to it, then make up whatever difference there is on the other side where the short piping exits the muffler. the piping on the inlet side only has like 1inch of straight area so i need to keep it all, whereas the other side has a good 3 inches at least. and if nothin else i could shorten the the little piece on the muffler to compensate....but thats if the 2 and 1/2 muffler will work on mine. cause i really dont want dual outlets. cause i cant afford the tips and everything and i dont like the look of stuff hanging down. on the SSE body style the tips and whatnot look good but i dont find the SE'* nearly as attractive with tips.
