Anybody have the factory part #'* for those mufflers?
I wonder what they look like INSIDE.
Most factory mufflers all look the same on the inside. Perforated inlet tube, then a baffle with a hole in it, then a perforated outlet tube. The two tubes are not connected, so the exhaust gases have to go thru the baffle.
The differences may be tube diameter, size of can size.

The low restriction aftermarket units, like Borla, just us a straight thru perforated pipe that is bent slightly, and then tune the sound based on engine displacement with different size cans. I like them the best because they sound great and are all stainless, so they last forever.
Unless the GM muffler is a stainless steel unit, you'd be better off with an aftermarket one. The key is size of the can. Usually the bigger it is, the less restrictive and quieter it is....but not always. Internals do have some effect, like Flowmaster units, that use a unique internal baffle arrangement with no interior perforated pipes.
Everyone has different tastes when it comes to sound but performance is directly related to pressure drop.

I really can appreciate the sound of the stock muffler and 87-91 SE Bonnevilles, the came stock with stiffer suspension and performance exhaust made of low grade stainless steel..not bad for stock. I would have kept mine, but the muffler had started to rust out on the top and I didn't really like how the tips (dual) pointed downwards....

Oh well, the new one is betta

B-94,

I can't paste that diagram on here or the personal messages, sorry.
I answered your PM'*, though.
That should explain it.

Good Luck, and don't take any $hit.

I'll be getting a recording of the present system tonight, Thursday.
Should get one of the system with the 'absorption style' Cherry Bomb glasspack this weekend or next week.
When both recordings are done, I'll find a way to post them.
The tip/deflector part of the project will be next.

Appointment at Bob'* Exhaust Specialties at 0800 Friday.
I'll know on the way to work by 1030 if my diabolical plan is good or if I'm on crack!

CHERRY BOMB IN.
RICE OUT!!!

It worked.
I ain't no crack ho.

Got pix.
Will get second recording soon.
Will post for comparison.

That nasty sound has all but disappeared.
There is still some noise, but nothing like it was before.
What I mean is that there is still the growl, but not the unbridled banshee from hell sound...like it was totally raw. NOW, it almost has a classy performance rumble to it.
Definetly V-6 sounds to it.
Amazing.
I believe I got some throttle response back, and if I'm not mistaken, acceleration and overall operation are smoother yet.
I'm happy with this so far.

The video/sound is in QuickTime format.
How do I make this available for the Forum readers?
Once these are done, do I e-mail 'em here, or what?
