looking for a new muffler
hey guys long time no see, anyway im in the market for a new muffler, and ive got it narrowed down to 3 or so based on price, which to me is the most important factor..
first up we have a Magnaflow Universal Aluminized muffler... 18" Body, 2-1/4" C/O 5x8 oval
next is a Thrush Universal Muffler 4 1/4" x 9 3/4" Oval, 2 1/4" Offset, 2 1/4" Center, 20" Body, 25" Overall Thrush Turbo
and im assuming that a Flowmaster 40 series is not reversible? because they have them in the right pipe size and price ranger but they are offset in center out...and i need just the opposite
the Thrush is looking good to me now because its cheap its only 40 bucks, the magnaflow is about 65 with free shipping...the 40 series is the same.
basically i just want my car to have a better exhaust sound, not necessarily one you can hear 4 blocks away but one that will grab some attention, and sound better than my burned out stock muffler..
also what effect does case size have on the sound? does a larger case make it quieter? a small case ricey? a medium case somewhere in between?

if you wanna stick with stock single outlet i would go with the 40 series myself. if you keep lookin you should be able to find a center inlet/offset outlet. im runnin the 80 series on my ssei and i absolutely love it. the flowmasters have pretty much no rasp and i dont have a resonator.

wouldnt the 40 series be really really loud? i mean thats one of the loudest mufflers they make isnt it? i just dont want to be disappointed, i know sometimes v6s turn out to be really raspy and stuff, i still have the resonator though, so im sure that would help.. i plan to keep everything stock, i like the clean look my car has right now, no exhaust components visible at all unless you bend down and look for them...it would stay like that, just louder
and i did find one that fits, same price too, just a different store.

all the f-body mufflers have 2.5 inch inlets...my SE has 2.25 inch piping, so they wont work unless i run all new exhaust...or find some way to make a 1/4 inch gap somehow sealable...
right now im looking at the magnaflow xl series...which is a 3-chamber design instead of their usual straight-thru...ive noticed the bonnevilles with magnaflows are somewhat farty at times...the xl series supposedly reduces alot of that...but we shall see i guess, the best part about them is that they are under 50 bucks before shipping.

Farty? Only without a resonator, and you have one.
The XL will have zero performance gain on your car.
