i just tried it on my 96, it blew the 10 amp fuse and set off the check engine light which now wont go off, anyone got the wiring diagrams for a 96SSEi? all the haynes manual said is the dark blue is the pcm to the high speed and the dark green is the pcm to the low speed, i only tried the high speed, grounded it'* brown wire and now i have a new fuse and check engine light that wont go away

Are you switching the ground wire from the relay? Provide a new ground through a switch at the relay in the maxifuse center.

Yes, I'm pretty damn sure I switched the ground. There are 4 wires. The 2 fat ones are the power wires, and the thin ones are the control wires. The two control wires are dark blue and brown. The wiring diagram in the Hayne'* shows the blue wire going out form the PCM into the relay; leading me to believe that it is the lead and the brown is the gorund. I switched the brown and it blew the fuse and set off the check engine light. I removed the wiring and replaced the fuse, everything seems to work but the check engine light won't turn off. Should I try splicing the blue wire instead?

willwrens coolin mod is for 92-93s only...I had similar problems after trying my own using his diagrams (minus check engine light) you may look at the instructions on my cardomain site and see if it looks like it matched up....keep in mind mines a SER1 so its doubtfull it will work either, but just in case

try taking the negative off the battery for 30 minutes and then putting it back on to clear the memory, if its still on go to an AutoZone and have them scan the car for codes then call yer local dealer with the code and ask them what it is.

Nerv, I did the bypass on both the low and high speed, run through a single-pole double-throw switch. Non-bypassed center, low down, high up.

In high speed, it sets a QDM1 fault for the low speed fan circuit. Apparently, the PCM actually MONITORS the low speed fans, but not the high speed. If it sees them come on when not requested (when in override), it sets my CEL. That may be what happened to you.

The light may go out after a certain number of start cycles, but I'd go ahead and do the disconnect to clear it. Don't forget to reset all your stereo presets.

i spliced into the blue wire and it worked, ive got a ghetto temp switch chillin in the ashtray, q1, i havent disconnected this type of battery before, just to be safe, you just unscrew the bolts on the lower terminal and it comes off? and i dont have an autozone near me, will pepboys or davanced auto parts do a free code scan?

Sorry, my post above should have read that the LOW speed override set a QDM1 fault on my PCM.

I think the bolts on your battery should be 8mm? Or is it 7? Two on the side. Just disconnect either one. Let it sit for 30, and reconnect.
