Aside from your car being only ODB I compliant, reflect again as you did when comparing the EEPROM to a computer BIOS chip. Flashing the BIOS is always risky business and should only be done on a need basis because of the danger of freezing the codes, thus frying the chip. A BIOS is not like a processor, the latter being engineered to be in a constant state of flux. I believe the newer chips are built to be reprogrammed, and can thus be so on a constant basis, thus making it like between a BIOS chip and a processor. Just my two cents worth. Hope it was worth that...I hate owing people.

I have now secured 2 HP E-Vectras (Cost to me = $0) that are 7" x 2" x 7" (HxWxD) that can fit snugly in my trunk and run off of 12 V. Each has a 8.4 GB HD. One will be dedicated to music and the other will have my GPS and OBD system running. The GPS and OBD will run XP (for the booting times) and the music one runs DOS. Oh heck ill go start my own post eventually...
This is an e-vectra:

bmsgaffer86: I am a little confused, are you attempting to add a 16 pin connector conversion to your 12 pin odb-I connector? do you have one of each type?
odb-II connector pinout info can be found here.
http://www.s10blazers.com/what_is_odb_type_ii.htm
But i am not convinced that you need odb II
Here is where i stand with my research right now for my 93 bonneville
I am 99.9% sure that my car has the ecm 16141470 based on this page
http://www.cruzers.com/~ludis/p4xref.html
and running across a post where someone referenced a '93 bonneville and that number for their ecm.
and also based on this link
http://www.tunercat.com/tnr_desc/ecm_sup.html#buick
i was able to find out that the program id byte is $5B4
also if you notice there is a blue circle with an i in it. more useful info
now my next step is to actually make the connector, which this link should provide what i need
http://pweb.de.uu.net/pr-meyer.h/aldl.htm
so that will happen in the next 2 weeks hopefully.
then luckily myself and a group of friends are all programmer geeks, so we should be able to work up a pretty sweet software set based off of other info that we find on sites.
I will document the building of the aldl ODB I to serial connector to the T so that anyone can repeat the process.
If you think i am wrong with any of my info, please let me know

Actually i have a ghetto hybrid car. It is one of the GM transitions years. It is OBD I compliant, but has an OBD II connector (with different pinouts than standard OBD II)
