Honestly, I'm not sure.
I noticed last Saturday that my gear selector indicator lights were not working properly, but it was certainly damaged before that.
My best guess is that it was damaged sometime around March 11-13th, when we were swapping out the rear exhaust manifold. Doug was standing on the tranny to get at the manifold bolts, so it may have gotten stepped on. We haven't messed around near the shift linkage since then.

Wires fixed.... car idles and shifts fine now.
Tried to do a CASE with a PowrTuner yesterday, but it wouldn't work. The program would give us the first step in the procedure, then wouldn't go past that. I think the guy who owns it probably posted on the PowrTuner forum.
I'm going to call a few places today to find out if they can do a CASE for $20 or less. The dealerships want upwards of $75, which is out of the question. I'll see what happens, I guess.

The scantool crankshaft position system varation learn function will ne inhibited if the engine coolant temperature is less than 158F..
The varation learn will be inhibited if any codes other than P1336 are set...
1) set the parking brake
2) start the engine and allow it to reach at least 158F
3) Turn off the ignition switch
4) Select the crankshaft varation learn procedure from the scantool special functions list
5) Follow the directions on the scantool, if the procedure is terminated, refer for important above for instructions
6) Observe DTC status for for DTC P1336
7) If the scantool indicates that DTC P1336 ran and passed, the crankshaft position system varation learn procedure is complete. If the scantool indicates DTC P1336 failed or not run, check for other DTC'*. If no DTC'* other than P1336 are set, repeat the crankshaft variation learn procedure as necessary..
From the service manual

I hope it will help you in some way...
I wonder is all scantools will do the Variation learn or if thats for the Snapon or Tech II...
It would be nice if even the cheaper ones performed the Variation Learn Sequence

The only tools I know of that will perform a CASE learn are the newer Snap-On OTC scanners, Tech II, DHP PowrTuner, and HP Tuners software. There may be more, but those are the ones I'm aware of.
Whatever the case, it doesn't matter anymore because I just got a free CASE learn from the local Pontiac dealership. Instead of calling them and negotiating over the phone, I just showed up with a print-out of the CASE procedure and explained that it'* a two minute job. The guy I talked to was very understanding and told me they could hook up a Tech II and do it free of charge. 10 minutes later I was back in my car and leaving their driveway.
I think the car actually feels stronger now.... I'm not positive though. I did a fairly decent burnout by loading the converter, and I think it squealed the tires more than it was able to before the CASE. It also seems to shift a bit differently, because it doesn't lock the TC under load quite as readily as it did before. I'll be interested to see if I'm getting as much KR now.
I'm more eager than ever to drive to Ohio on the 14th. I will get some scan data ASAP so Rogue, Foghorn, and any other gurus can take a look at how the car is behaving. These are exciting times!
