My old 1999 SSEi is running around right now with the 3.4" magnuson pulley, 180* t-stat, TR-55'* (.057"), Taylor Spiro Pro'* (can't believe they're still good) and gutted airbox.
The car pulls really nice and, in all honesty, it feels stronger than it did with the Magnaflow muffler and CAI. :?
I really believe you could have gotten away with a 3.4", if you would do the 180* stat, and some sort of CAI.

I was getting KR with a 3.4, even with a fairly wide open intake and exhaust (pre PEM'* and DHP). A 3.5 is still a nice upgrade, and you don't have to worry too much about KR.

With my 3.4, with an intake, exhaust, and my 1 stage colder plugs gapped at .57, I was still seeing KR when I went WOT (1-2*). After my front PEM, and intense pcm, I am still seeing some due to slightly increased timing.

I had my car scanned right after my runs at the track and found I had 10* KR with a vacuum leak. Fixed the vacuum leak and I had no KR (it did flash 1* for just an instant).
Of course this was with the CAI and Magnaflow, so it would definitely be possible to be getting as much as 2-3*KR with the stock muffler reinstalled and the gutted air box vs. the CAI. But from they way it felt smoother after the demodding might also be due to the quieter engine, which doesn't sound so burdened with a stock muffler and no CAI to expose SC whine and other engine noises associated with CAI/BWI/FWI'*.

Keep in mind that GTP'* run faster than Bonnies mainly due to weight. I think you may be comparing the 2 with identical mods, which won't give you the same results.
To be perfectly frank with you, go with the 3.4 because I know you (just like everyone who starts modding) will go big.

Todd i was referring directly to his car.
Don't you have the intake pipe on the 93? I can see why you would've got a 3.5 now, but why not get some supporting mods before and get the smaller pulley for the long run?

Next summer I should be able to do the following mods: Flowmaster 80 & headers, CAI, intercooler, rockers, and a 3.0" pulley.
