I got off work a little early yesterday to drop something off at FedEx so I quickly drove to my hometown GM dealer. The shop was already closing down (I was 15 minutes late), but a few guys were finishing up. I talked to what looked like a shop manager asking about getting a CASE learn for my custom tuned PCM. He said that it would wipe any custom configuration because the Tech II will initially go through a "run through"...or something to that effect. I asked if they used a standard Tech II and he said yes.
I was polite, said thanks anyway, and left after they recommended finding a speed shop in the city.
Then I thought back to the directions Intense puts in with their PCMs and from what I remember the writeup gives directions on the specifics you need to go through on an actual Tech II.
My first thought is that this guy is a bloody idiot, but is it possible that a Tech II can automatically do something such as a "run though" when its first connected to a car?

well the GM Tech 2 can Flash the latest software OSID version onto the PCM. Chances are that the dealer is not even familiar with what a CASE learn even is. Kyle if you know any of the guys with an Autotap, or a Tuner, you can do the CASE learn, and not have to mess with the dealer

I've played with a tech 2 myself and no you dont have to do what he says, problem is these guys have no clue when comes to the scanner, then just follow the step by step procedures and dont use it as a tool.
I thought Autozone had a loaner that would work?

When I took my car to the dealership back in Sept for a CASE learn they understood. They told me it was going to cost the same as a CASE learn + reflash; I talked to the manager and the tech who was going to do the work.

That guy'* an idiot. I had two dealers tell me that AND wanted $100 plus to do it. The third dealer i went to, the service desk guy had no idea what i was talking about so he let me talk to one of the guys in the shop and they knew what i was talking about and did it for something like 40.

I'll join that forum and see if I can get in touch with him or the guy at Caspers.
