Converting a series I
Does anybody know if you can convert a n/a series I 3800 to a supercharged one? For ex. If I found an ssei intake manifold, throttle body, injectors, rails, M62......and maybe a new pcm with a custom tune. Would this work or are there some major problems that would prevent the swap...like internals, cost to benifit, etc. Was just pondering on it today and thought I'd just put it out there and see what everybody thought.
If not, are there many performance upgrades for a n/a series I 3800? I know it'll never perform like a supercharged motor without lots of work, but just a little extra power here and there.

Much of the information you are asking for is contained in the Techinfo link at the top of the page.

Most people on this forum will say it is not worth your time or not possible. I've seen more then one person do this with great results though. If it was me though I'd run a direct port nitrous setup. Series 1'* are tanks and can handle alot if setup right. A good nitrous setup will be able to make alot more power then any M62 could.

Yes Kyle and that was with a basic dry setup. Add a direct port setup, bottle heater/purge, progressive controller, wideband 02, custom PCM and watch out. If you can keep the trans together you will be taking down modded series 2'* all day long.

A built 60 trans can handle any power you throw at it - it is just that most people don't want to spend the money. Their are a few things that you can do to a stock trans to help it last longer.

The most practical method of doing this is to sell the car and buy an SSEi. Second on the list of practicality is a FULL swap. Last would be what you did.

It'* quite cheep and easy to supercharge a L27. As for durability the only problem (small) I see is diff. There is L27'* out their just as fast as some L67'* and some that are putting down more torque then L67'* with nitrous without having problems with the diff.
