"Chrome Intakes"

I was looking at having a local shop bend some pipe, coat it, and sell them personally, but when perusing through autozone I found the spectre intake, grabbed a ruler from the car, and measured it up (literaly, and figuratively.)
It just so happened to be the correct bend, and the right size, especially for my motor. No one who has put one of these on their car has had issues with air deliver, or idle quality as a result of it. I've seen an ebay pipe and no-name filter in person myself, and it'* really not the best for this application.

Keep in mind that at some point, your car MAY be able to outflow that 3" pipe, but it'll take alot of mods.
That style of intake served me well for 3 years. But I've found it'* time to upgrade.

I have a question regarding the outflowing the pipe.
How do you know it'* outflowing the pipe? Is it by feel or sound etc?

Hi folks,
Been a while since I've visited my original post.
Obviously, the E-Bay one is no good, so that answers that question.
Is there a step by step link with a Bill of Materials someone could share with me on building a correct intake for my '93 SSEi?
I had an evil thought of making a ram air type intake, using the hood vents from some other car. Anyone try that?
Or, using the vents found in the fenders?
Thanks in advance.

I have a custom ram-feed to my airbox, but it'* not going to add power. It'll only keep engine bay heat away from your filter through positive pressure.
Ram-air is an effect that only comes into play at speeds in excess of 100mph on naturally aspirated engines. And very little gains at that speed. Your car will naturally pull more air via the supercharger than the positive pressure feed at speed can provide.
Try a search on my ram air feeds. I have two ducts. One feeds the old retired CAI, the other cools my SC casing and TB.

Thanks, Will.
If anyone could pass along some sort of parts list for a K&N kit I should hunt down, and provide dimensions as needed, I would greatly appreciate it.

there isn't a straight forward kit to buy, and i don't think i've seen two people do it exactly the same on here yet.
You can do a search and look at the other threads people have posted and get a good idea of what you want. but basicly it will be...
hose clamps
silicon reducer (maybe, depends on car)
rice pipe
K&N filter (or whatever brand you chose to go with)
Heat shield (all custom made)
IAT extender (maybe)
you'll have to get under the hood and take measurements on your car and custom fit everything. its not that hard at all and can really be a lot of fun.

Hope everyone is having a nice weekend.
Will: Not to dig up old posts, but I just studied your Ram Air set up. I loved it.
Very well thought out, fresh thinking.
I'm thinking of rigging up something similar if only to accomplish delivering colder temps and fresh air to my */c.
I also found the posts where various members shared ideas on making their intakes work. Lots of good info.
We don't have Autozone'* up here in Canada. I think our equivalent is Parts Source. I'll give them a try when things warm up a bit. Temps are now dipping well below freezing in Southern Ontario, might have to wait 'til mod season, and I'll be sure to share some pics when I complete my intake.

If you REALLY want to get that hot air moving away from your engine bay try some hood vents. Driverjohn and Willwren both have them. Coupled with the fresh air feed and high speed fans override, the vents would really let out the heat. Maybe one of those guys can chime in - obviously not the EASIEST thing to do, but it'* damn effective from what Bill told me.
