Default CHEAP POWER?????????

I didn't want to post this in someone else'* topic so here it goes.

I've heard a couple times about putting a bag of ice on the intake manifold before driving (racing) to improve performance. Can someone tell me exactly how this works, and what it does? Does it work with N/A'* as well as */C'*? How long would the effect of the ice last? Any more info would be great.

Thanks!

It'll last until that runs gone. What it does is it cools the incoming air into the engine. Colder Air = Denser air = more power.

Im not sure how much it sheds off the time.

Oh, well I knew the colder air = more dense part. I guess I thought there was more to it. How soon do you have to 'race' after you put it on? Or how long should you keep it on?

Keep it on as long as you can. Once you turn your engine on it will start warming up right away. So make sure to take it off at the last possible moment. Ususally before your going through the water trap and to the staging lights.

Some jerks even purposely pull sneaky staging tricks which lenghten the time. So the other persons engine will heat up.

Thats why you get a fan switch and just turn your fans on high, so all they are doing is hurting themselves.

Anyways, to answer the Ice question, evidently it really helps. On the GTP the blower doesn't get hot because it is a Stage 4 ZZP Blower so we have never tried it, but supposedly you just set a bag of ice (the kind you get at a gas station or convienience store) on the top of blower for like 10 or 20 minutes, then the blower will be much cooler (it gets very hot even after just driving around and not getting boost), since it is much cooler the air will be cooler, since the air will be cooler it will be more dense, and it will cause less knock, meaning less knock retard, meaning more power and a faster ET.

what about strapping dry ice to it? Or better yet, LIQUID NITROGEN! That stuff will cool anything!

Co2 units work great and are not too expensive. Water injection is also a great way to go.

I may be stupid, but isn't dry ice a little too cold? Seems like that might end up cracking something...
