Anyone done this UIM mod?

If you go to page two of the thread in 92-99 you'll see the pics of what I did while replacing the LIM & UIM gaskets. You'll also see how my LIM broke, but that'* another story. Has anyone else done this while replacing their UIM?

Hmm I didn't do it but i'm thinking about it now. Probably won't notice it that much but every little bit counts.
But that could help the air get split up evenly ino the 3 and 3 intake runners......

Yeah, we thought about that when we were looking at the setup... and then did it anyway! Like I said in the 92-99 thread, it certainly isn't any weaker than it was before... I guess maybe time will tell on this one. I'll update when I get the car back next weekend. Any other thoughts would be great.

my feelings on it are pretty simple... at gm, there'* a huge push to not spend money on un-neccessary crap.
that said, there'* prolly a good reason it was originally put in, but I don't think you'll see, hear, or feel much of any difference at all running w/o it.

Yeah, you may have a point there... I'll be able to give a more comprehensive report once the car is back in my hands (I had to leave it at home for a week while I drove back to school). My TCCOA buddy has driven it once since then, and he reports that it seems to have good power and be running well. Maybe I gained a tiny bit of oomph? I'll let you guys know after I drive it more.

Good detective work! Glad I'm not the only idiot who thought of it! Actually I have to give the credit to my good friend Doug from the Thunderbird and Cougar Club of America (you can see his oil-sludged finger make a cameo appearance in the picks of my lower intake). He gave me the bravery to hack that thing out of there. I recommend following the procedure from the OCGP, because I made the mistake of cutting too deep into the mouth of the UIM. Instead of cutting the vertical piece a little short and then sanding the nubs that were left over, I cut right at the ends and dug just a little deep. Doesn't seem to have any adverse effects, but it certainly isn't ground smooth like the pics on the other forum. I'll give a performance report this weekend. Doug and I are going to race my Bonnie with current mods against a stock '95 Olds 88 with the Series II. Should be interesting!
