With that removed, if you hit another car head on or another car hits you, the impact will force the engine back through the firewall and will probably crush your legs at the very least, leaving you handicapped for the rest of your life. If you are lucky you will die instantly.

Listen dude, I happen to be one of those drivers who thought they would never get in an accident. 5yrs, 23 staples, a crushed vertabrae, 2 metal rods and 4 BIG screws in my lower back, permantely scarred forehead, damaged cartilage in my nose, a new love for life, and the painful realization that we really are only human and bones break and we do make mistakes, later i am living to tell you things can go wrong.
Granted this accident was my fault, but it still busted me up just the same and caused a lot of worry to the people who love me the most.
Listen to the voices of reason, the saving of weight is not worth the maybe taking of a life. Any responsible racer wil tell you that. What you see in the movies is NOT real.
People really do die from car accidents, I have lost several friends to them.
Any how your life is more valuable than saving... what 100 pounds, or as you put it 10 horsepower.
Read these replies and go put the bumpers back on your car.
We are only saying these things because we care....REALLY
God Bless you and keep you safe,
Mac

The accident that totalled my Roadmaster and got me into the SSEi was not my fault. Kim and I were rearended by a truck, and smashed into the car in front of us. Had that bar not been there, it would have been much worse. It wasn't our fault, we didn't see it coming, and there was nowhere to go.

man thats over the edge. i bitched about saving weight but got over it. You are just ******* crazy to gut your car like that. Im pretty confident i wont ever wreck, but theres too many inconsiderate ******** and morons on the road that just dont care. Most of them live in the ghetto and dont have any insurance, but I would like to pound them with a piece of heavy mining equipment.
I have a serious edge over the competition as all of you do with the SSEi'* (ie honda and acura drivers) in a wreck. The other party will be a steaming pile of cowdom and Aurora or SSEi will probably still have a running motor and wont be crumpled.

its there for a reason...to save your life. The measly HP and tracktime isnt worth your life. espically if you just had exhuast work, a new paint job, and more. Think about this... If you get in a small fender bender, it isnt small for you. The object to reduce the damage is gone, so new
-front clip
-hood
-radiator
-more engine parts
-fenders
-and more.
Think if you were in a major wreck.
Do the smart thing and put it back on. :?

we are going to take a bike helmet, and remove all of the protective foam, leaving nothing but the pretty plastic shell
we are going to put this nice little plastic shell on your head, put you on a bike, and send you out
now we are going to have another car driver swatting at a fly that is in their car while they are driving down the road
the driver of the car accidently comes up onto the side walk that you are safely riding on with your nice little plastic shell for a helmet
the driver has now wiped you off of the sidewalk
now your peaceful existance has been destroyed because your pretty little shell for a helmet has shattered, along with what your helmet was protecting.
remember, you were the safest rider there was out there, you were never going to get in trouble.
please, for your sake <and whomever else may ride in your car> put the friggan helmet back together.
we will use my accident for an example that took out my bonneville to prove that there are some you cant avoid:
we were driving along, perfectly fine.
lady has a stop sign
lady stops
we go through intersection
lady goes while we happen to be entering the intersection
nothing could have been done to prevent it on our end, nothing could have saved us from getting hit.
we were perfectly fine, because our bonneville took it like a champ
yours will not
yours will fall apart.
when your bumper just caves in, whats next? the grille, the headlights, the front clip, the hood, the radiator? all these things will take what your bumper didnt. instead of the nice cushy impact that we like to take for granted, you will be stopped by steel, glass, plastic, and many other metals.
but ask yourself this question: is your life really worth an extra 10 horsepower?

One of the main reasons I bought the Bonneville was because of it'* excellent crash rating. Keep in mind we have NEVER lost a member or even had a serious injury in a crash. Including a wreck at 130mph.

Look at it this way, the Part that was removed takes up fgor a lot of the impact and transfers that impact to the rest of the frame and body...
Lets also take this angle, If you weren't wearing a seat belt, and you were in the passenger seat, say we were doing 80mph and I slam the brakes to the floor to avoid an accident, but we hit a stopped Truck( brick wall ), say we hit that truck full force at 50 Mph, and that metal support wasn't there to transfer the impact of the accident... Well in that case, If I was the dirver I would be very lucky to live in the first place, if I lived... And the impact for the passenger not wearing the seat belt would be very deadly... If the air bag didn't stop or kill the passenger, the passenger would go through the windshield and get killed anyhow... If you hit a brick wall ( parked truck of car for that matter ) at 50 mph, believe it or not, the car takes up a lot of that force due to the design of the crumple zones... The car will come to an almost dead stop, but the body will be traveling at speed... This is where the seatbelt comes in, They do save lives... Without the seatbelt, you will impact the windshield at 50 mph, and most likely be killed...
All I'm trying to get at is that the extra 23 Lbs is a very inportant part of the impact absorbtion....
I have seen a few deadly accidents, they weren't pretty, and to this day these sights have stuck with me... The largest single reason I wear a seatbelt... I saw a 6 or 7 year old kid not wearing a seatbelt in the back seat... The kids mom rearended the car in front of her( stopped if memory serves ) The kids head went through the windshield.. Died instantly...
I'm not trying to come down on anyone, but all of the saftery items are there for a reason... I hate to see anyone get hurt...
Please think about those 23 lbs, and who those 23lbs may one day save...

My car was parked when it got rear ended. It took 300 to replace the bumper and paint it.
If your car gets rear ended, no matter what speed, its totalled. And you won't get any insurance.
