Intake Air Control Cleaning (IAC) On 97 Park Avenue
Had a bit of a sticky Higher idle than normal this AM.
So decided to clean the intake IAC !
Used small Ratchet, 1/4 socket & Larger Phillips to break the 'Two screws Loose" !
Based on the amount of Carbon inside the IAC Port....
I think the whole Throttle body should come off and be cleaned!

That aint nasty. While you were doing that, I'm in the process of cleaning the 1/4" of baked on carbon out of a supercharger inlet. I'll post pics sooner or later.
Good job! Someone could benefit from this!

Look forward to those pics!
1/4 " ya wow... that sounds like it hasn't been cleaned in a while...
You running premium fuel and take it on the highway? or why so much carbon?
Damn....
Use this stuff on the highway..2 bottles to a full tank and let er rip...
Chevron Techron Concentrate Plus, 10 oz: Automotive : Walmart.com
Good luck on the "Super" cleaning job ahead...

Dunno, I can only guess its 16 years of carbon buildup. It came off of a 96 Park Ave Ultra.

I did this last week when I replaced my LIM gaskets.
Be careful when taking out the mounting screws, especially if the IAC solenoid hasn't been removed before. I stripped the hell out of one of the screws and had to extract it. It'* mounted now with only one screw, but the o-ring seems to keep it sealed.

Good tip Nev.
I have always found it easier to take a large cross head screwdriver, put it into the screw head and give the screwdriver a good whack with a hammer. This usually breaks the thread lock and makes it easier removing the screw.

Is there a way to remove the intake air screen?
Anyways, I did end up spraying MAF friendly throttle body cleaner in wide bursts through screen, while the car was running at about 2000rpm, to keep it from stumbling as the spray went in.
The Pk.Ave seems to have like this treatment.
Idles about 300rpm lower after a good highway boogie too.
I am going to remove the MAF soon. I can image the carbon gunk in there too!

Yes, there is a way to remove it. There is a snap ring on the outside of the screen. Simply pull it out with a large bobby pin of some sort. But the thing of it is though, it just doesn't pop out. It has to be forced out, and the BEST way to do that is to remove the TB, and push something very DULL through the backside of the TB to push the screen out.

Thanks Mike!
May remove it permanently in spring when I get to removing the whole body then.
Besides stopping mice from entering.. what real purpose does this thing serve?
May even do the LIM gaskets too again while there... to be on safe side.
