Shocks and struts question..update question!
Do our cars have shocks and struts all around? the reason i asked is because when i took my car through inspection the guy failed it because he said the shocks and struts were bad but didn't say witch to witch. and someone else told me i have struts in the front and shocks in the back..so i'm just a tad confused here..

to some people the rear struts that don't have the coil-over design are sometimes regarded as shocks, but no, you have an H body and therefore have 2 front coil over MacPherson struts and two rear non coil over MacPherson struts
if you're wondering one of the largest differences between the two...
something with a shock has to have something holding the top of the hub, most times referred to as an upper control arm among other things, a strut bolts to the hub itself and deals with lateral forces directly from it. this same thing also is a minor downfall, other systems that use a shock instead of a strut, known as a double wishbone suspension have much better handling on average and also the design puts much less stress on the shock and makes it easier to replace when it comes time for that.
if you still are interested in knowing a bit more about the differences and such, google is your friend, but for future reference, 00+ bonnes DO have struts front, shocks back.

a Shock does not help hole the Wheel on to the car. nor does it provide any strength.
a Strut helps hold the wheel on and provides strength to hold the suspension together.

And yes both of the C and H bodies use the exact same struts...
And we do have struts at all 4 corners
