Today started the motor . It started very easy, the idle was a bit high ,around 900 rpms. While idling there was a noise like a loose valve . Kind of a tapping sound. The motor didn't sound like before this. A little viberation. As I gave it more gas the vibration set in and was very noticeable till around 1100 rpms , as I gave it more gas in mellowed out a little, but it felt like it wasn't firing on all pistons.

I'm not too worried about what it does at 30MPH. I'm asking: When you were leaving a stop, so 0-5MPH, when the motor vibrated, did the RPMs increase quickly even though the car did not accelerate quickly?

Thanks for your reply. The vibration was so bad I was worried about the motor coming apart. . I don't know if it is safe to drive or that would cause more problems. I guess I will drive it in the morning. I will let you knows what happens then. I will try the 0 to 50 and find out what'* up. Thanks again for your advice. gary r

I drove the car for a while today. The rpms where what they should be . I felt no slippage from the tranny it was shifting up and down ok. The engine still feels like its got a miss. The motor would idle a bit low and stall . I could feel what felt like it was not firing on all 6. At higher rpms it would smooth out again. I don't know what else to check. I am going to try and get some money for plugs and wires see if that helps .I know it won't hurt . Thanks for all your help. Without it I could not have kept it running as long as I have. gary r

Yeah, sounds like a miss. If you don't know how old the spark plugs and wires are, they're probably due.

Thanks for replying to me. I will try to get plugs and wires as soon as I can. Your right they are due. Today I noticed that when under the hood that when I would give it a quick jab at the gas that I would hear a noise almost a metal noise . Like a chirp then the belt would get a jump in it like a loose spot .The noise would happen at idle or when I hit the gas. There would be a spot I could see the belt vibrate as it came over the top of it'* travel. After I backed off the gas it would return to normal. I hope this makes sense , it'* hard to tell someone without seeing it. Thanks to everyone for their help and patience. gary r

Well work still goes on with 94 cutlass. Has anyone got a tip for reaching the back side spark plugs. I was laying on top of the motor and could not see but 1 of the plugs and reaching it was very hard let alone trying to remove it. Feels like the plugs were put in with an impact wrench. Never had a plug that tight before. If anyone has any ideas about the plugs removal, thank you in advance for any help. Take care, gary r

If that has the dog bones on the top of the engine remove a bolt out and allow the engine to drop forward. If the alternator is on the top back remove it and you should be OK.

In my experience, you just about never see them, unless you are clever with magnets and mirrors. Almost every one I've done has been by feel. Hint: It is important to see what angle they come out (based on socket and extension angle), then be very careful to make sure you thread the new ones in properly.
