1993 olds 88 royale v6 3.8 airbag light is on and stays on.
When I got in and started my olds tonight to head home from my friends I noticed after I started it that my airbag light was on and was staying on when it normally would go off. Since I bought the car a little over a year a go the center of my sterring wheel where the airbag is looks like its going to deploy. I've always been curious if it'* safe driving the way it is but even more so now that the light is on. I recently changed the TPS and the thermostat a week a go but Im sure that don' have anything to do with the light. Anyone have a idea what I should do as far as getting it looked at or what I can check out next.

Your best bet is to try and pull Airbag codes to see what'* going on. The only thing you can possibly get near while working under the hood is the front impact sensor behind the front grille.
There should be a diagram under hood mapping out the air bag components. If your module is under the passenger seat, you may wish to rule out corrosion from water intrusion, and possibly check the ground bus bars under the carpet near the front of the front doors.
I am also not sure what you mean by the airbag looking like it'* "going to deploy". Airbags are deployed by an explosive charge. They explode with enough force to blow the bag through the outer cover on the steering wheel. The outer cover is designed with weak points to enable predictable penetration. Sometimes the outer cover splits on it'* own with age, however that has no bearing on airbag deployment, just don't shove anything down in there that you don't want hurled at your face in the event of a crash.
I have seen a couple of cases of spontaneous airbag deployment, but it usually revolves around corrosion of the module due to water penetration under the carpet.
If you are paranoid, pull the airbag fuse, and that should eliminate any chance of deployment.

As Rjolly stated, the first place to start is to get the code......however most scanners/code readers can't read "B" codes, so you have to go to a professional shop....but like he said, one thing you can do is just pull up the carpet on the passenger side....if wet under there, the connections to the SDM could be corroded....
