Always been problem Dan, and not just between black and whites. Not only have members of these races parodied themselves and not gotten public critique but old people, fat people, Jewish people, Italian people, Japanese people, Mexican people make fun/money of ethnic differences in speech, style, clothing, et al. If Society is really going to change something and actually a make a difference, it needs to come out against it in general. It'* not right to make fun of cultural, style choices, et al. That will never happen, I'm just not liking taking something and pointing it as xtreme. Most of what is said by ethnic comedians is laffed at by all, but switch things around and it gets dicey. So what do ya do? I say leave it be and have sensitivity to others.

I agree Danthurs, a LOT of black so called comedians say things that should be offensive to anyone but they do it for the money. It sells for better or worse but I do not consider them representative of the average person, black or otherwise. Also, this wasn't television and we should not confuse what we see on tv for real life. And once again, I am not saying that you should be offended. What I am saying is that just because you or I may not find something offensive does not mean that it is not to some and those students, even if they are in the minority should not have to be subjected to that kind of behavior. I am sure that there are some things that you consider inappropriate. Just because the person responsible does not feel that way or maybe their friends support them it would be no less offensive to you.

And as the Senior Admins it'* tough to rule on these types of threads. I felt this one given the Forums stabilty could be discussed without incident and glad I left it and all are being mature. Its a difficult thing to discuss/debate, and not going away any time soon. Glad all can reflect their opinion without being disrespectful or hurting feelings. Sometimes talking things out work for bettering diffucult situations. It help to be sincere and civil.

Something about the stroy kep bugging me so I re-read it. Got to love how Administration ducked the issue of why it was allowed to run, yet now want to act as on the side of those who complained. Talk about dodging responsibility and throwing people under a bus. Something like that must have took alot of planning, orchestration and oversight. Who are, where are, and how come faculty invilved in this arent included. In the story or in the responses by Admins as to what should be done. They act so against it yet won't own up to their responsibility in it or what they can do to make sure they don't let it happen again.

Well, I was in the middle of a reply when the lightning shut me down so maybe its time to let this one go. ( a hint maybe?) After all I don't expect for everyone to see things from my point of view. They can't unless they have walked in my shoes. Its like a conversation that I had with my stepson the other day. You don't have to agree with me all of the time but the essence of respect has more to do with how the other person feels especially when you don't agree with them. I may not agree with anothers religious views for example but that does not make them wrong.

The only reason I think anybody should have been offended is because wayyyyyyyyyy back in the day when slavery was allowed, the ones that worked the house wore makeup to make their skin more white. Reversing that is why I could see it as offensive.
The reason why this pisses me off though is because NOBODY cried foul when the movie "Tropic Thunder" came out. In that movie a very well known actor went "blackface", and nobody cried racism. They only thing they made a stink about was the fact of how many times they said "retard".

Yeah, not too long ago. Just about 100+ years or so. Long enough to let it go. Get over it, we don't owe anything to you. (Not YOU you, the black people claiming white people owe them something)
