I'd call that a serious lack of judgement. For the Principal and every participating teacher.

I kind of understand why they did this, but where they messed up was not telling the parents before hand through meetings and letters. They could have even alerted the local press about what they would be doing.

i see no reason for it. like you can really be trained to act a certain way in a stressful panic situation like that? i bet every single one of those kids were on the best of their behavior. at what point do we cry wolf to many times?

i wouldnt mind seeing somone lose their job over it.

What happened to the good old days of fire drills and earthquake drills????

That to me seems a little too young to be messing with a kids head like that.

My my my how times have changed since I was in high school.

One day in high school a man appeared at our classroom door with a gun looking for the coach (gym teacher). Our teacher gave him some B.*. line and sent the guy on a wild goose chase in a direction the coach would not be near. Then he comes back in the classroom and decides to send a message to the principal that there is a man with a gun in the school. Well, I get picked because I'm the biggest guy in the classroom. For size comparison, I was always assumed to be a football player, linebacker or another position where you just hit people all game long.

Some thoughts looking back on that day....
- The teacher is a moron. Why send the biggest guy to the principal? Why not send the littlest scrawniest kid you can find. There'* less to shoot at that way. I was a pretty easy target!!
- I left the room and class continued. No school lockdown. No alarms. No big deal. I doubt that would be the case today.
- The school was wide open all day and no metal detectors. A far cry from schools today.
- School security was called to deal with the problem. No cops at all.
- I was unarmed. Back then we didn't carry guns. A knife was a big deal back then.

How times change.

This was asinine. The teachers knew it was a “drill”, so who was getting the “training” here, and what was being trained? The kids learned 1) how to be frightened beyond belief, and 2) their teachers are jerks. If the teachers wanted training they could have got it without subjecting a bunch of unsuspecting children to this mental abuse.

As a parent, I’m pissed. If any of my children had been subjected to that, an a$$ kicking would be the least of worries for those responsible.

sounds like the teachers just got bored.

I heard about this on the radio this morning and I was apauled! If my daughter'* school did something like that, I'd be up there raising hell like a ****. I can understand having a drill, but geesh, not the way they did it.

i am sure this may turn into a topic of debate, and they are right, that probably was a spout of poor judgement, but when they said this is not a drill, that makes it wrong. completely wrong.
