Just park it in the garage and be done with it. Unless its full, then i use a run of the mill 3" plastic ice scraper/ brush combo.

However if its slushy frost, i'll use the squigy

I've never used my Hoppy. I use my 3" telescoping scraper squeege insulated handle brush to clear my windshield. It'* awesome. Got it at Wal-Mart.

So far it looks like there is not much difference than what I do in this climate, except for the metal blades. I have never heard of that and would never consider using metal of any grade to scrape glass.
It doesn't happen here often, but on the rare occasion I need to scrape auto glass, there is usually considerable ice build-up. From watching other people screw up, I have experienced the following:
  • Don't use hot water over ice, the sudden temperature change will crack the windshield. And depending on the wind conditions, the hot water can refreeze on the window compounding the problem.
  • Don't use the defroster blower to melt ice, the same thing can happen. The hot air blowing on the lower part while ice is still stuck to the upper part will crack the windshield.
  • Don't run the wipers until the windshield is completely clear. I have a friend that didn't believe me on this one and was too lazy to scrape the whole windshield. He made a hole that he could see well enough to get to work and used the defroster and wipers to make it bigger. His wipers fell apart and scratched the windshield.
This doesn't apply to happy fluffy snow, only to hard frozen sheet ice like we get here sometimes.

start the car with command start and let the car melt the ice away. If there is too much ice the window will be warm and a plastic scraper with a brush on the opposite end will work just fine.

How would you know.. you live in FLORIDA!!!!

Got myself a monster telescoping deal from Costco. Brush, hard rubber edge on the main part of it that takes care of mostly anything, then if needed follow that up with the hard plastic scraper on the other end. Had that puppy for about 3 years now.

Hold on..what am I saying? That'* only when I'm not at home. At home.. baby sleeps in a nice warm garage.

For me, this is the first year of having remote start so I will try that, but then again I am forgetfull and I will probably have the car running only to find out my heater/defrost wasnt on

Usually I use a plastic scraper with brush combo, but then like Paul said, only about 50 uses before the plastic bites it and then your buying another one.
