Plastic scraper. Its normally best to use them for a winter then toss them and buy a new one in spring well they are on clearance, keep them more than one season and they start turning dull and they are harder to use.
I need to get use to leaving about 5 minutes in scrape off the windows in the morning since its about that time now.

Yes that'* the trick. Heavy duty well reinforced Plastic. They only last for about 50 scrapings and then toss them and buy a new plastic one.
I've tried the metal ones. They work but only just as long and they are twice as expensive.

For my L36 application when it gets cold enough here... I usually end up Discovering the possibilities or Mastering the moment

... heavy duty plastic grip with a brass edge. But I only have to use that if I'm in a hurry. Otherwise, I'll start her up, let her warm up...and use the rubber squeege at the end of my extended handle snowbrush.
I can't remember scratching the windshield with the metal edge...it could happen perhaps, but not if you're carefull with it, making sure the edge is straight, and keeping it as parallel to the windshield as possible.
