WHAT kind of beds are good on bad backs?
I sold my queen sized spring matress bed a while ago, and started sleeping in my twin sized water bed, well the waterbed is a little on the small side and not that good on my back.
I still have back problems from when I got rear ended a month ago so I need something better.
Anyone tried out the Tempurpedic matresses before? or am I better off with a spring setup?
I'm looking to spend no more than $1000 on the bed, matress, and frame.
Any thoughts & opinions are appreciated.
edit: changed budget to $1000

With that kind of a budget you should stay with the waterbed.
I've had mine for the last 28 years. Still have a great back and it'* the best sleep. I have slept on a lot of good spring mattresses and they are not the same.
The Tempo mattress is a couple thou at least.
I traded in my water bed a couple of years ago to try a $3 K fancy mattress and ended up back with the water bed.
The heat sink/warming properties of waterbed are more comfortable for both me and wife.
The spring mattress made us both wake up at 3:am in a night sweat. Could only take a week of that.

Lucky for you I am a soon to be Doctor of Chiropractic and therefore an expert in back pain. Anyway, I would agree that for the money a sleep number is probably the best bet. I have one. Being able to adjust the firmness is the best bet for a back injury as opposed to a spring mattress. It could take a long time though to find that spot that keeps you asleep through the night. Tempurpedic is good too but the price is a lot of money. More than a grand. Tough to find a sleep number too under a grand. Spring mattresses are mostly uncomfortable for most people although there are those that love them too. It is mostly preference. I think waterbeds are less supportive in some areas and that is why thy don't work for all back pain. So long story short, the sleep number or an equivalent adjustable air bed should be your best bet. Just remember that most mattress stores will let you try it out for 90 days and you can return it if you aren't happy with it.
