After years of sitting with just a bit of fresh gas in the carb bowl and a few pump of the throttle this beast started right up.
I did do a proper tune up before starting it like oil change and distributor and coil and plugs and wires. But it was basic and this car runs like it did the day it was parked.
This was the fun part seeing if it would run, now the real work begins.

You hear that giggle of joy at the end of the T-Bird video Art?
That is what it'* all about, that feeling of accomplishment when something you are working on goes well!
Couldn't help but smile and giggle after hearing that.

Thanks guys! Now that I know I have a running car here I want to get it to the point where I can drive it into the garage before winter. So I want to drop the tank and have it sealed, change out the diff fluid and trans fluid. Bleed front brakes since they kind of work, and then replace the rear drums.
I also need to mess around with the cooling system, I am running it with only water right now, and it leaks out of the two radiator hoses =). So I need to replace those, and get some anti freeze in there before winter.
When I pulled this car out of the garage I used my '14 Ford escape AWD. As I was dragging the Tbird the rear brakes were locked up. I took the wheels off and beat the drums with a BFH until I could get them to turn again. Amazingly after 34 years the brake fluid was completely full.
I will try to get a thread started with some good pictures in the other car section.

Starting to do "lube" type maintenance. Breaking bolts under the hood that look like starting to rust, the spraying lube, and retightining. A example of this are the bolts/ nuts that hold the battery in place. If I have to replace the battery, I don't want frozen nuts to stop a battery swap when it is zero degrees, dark, and windy. Also lubing door latches, etc.

Just got back from a trip from Idaho. Took the wife'* Caddy and on the way home I noticed about 10 or 15 times that if I had the cruise set and I hit a hill and the transmission had to downshift to maintain speed it wouldn't upshift back into 5th unless I activated the triptronics and manually shifted it into 5th. I'm sure it'* probably a software issue but I hate the idea of paying the dealer a hours labor for a 10 min job.

I wonder if there are any known issues/directives on your caddy re the cruise?
Might be worth a call to ask them.
How much is an hours labor there? Hopefully it is just an program flash or update though.
This sounds like you may have a Mastercard bill in the mail soon ..
