Default what is the deal with my friend'* car?

ok so my friend'* car is pretty fucked up, something with the trans, occasionally it will just stop working and wont engage any gears, i checked the fluid but it was really dark, it smelled burnt, if there was fluid it would be black but there is chance that the fluid mgiht not even be reahcing the dipstick and what i saw couldve been residue cause my testing was inconsistent, the car also stalls out sometimes, if ihad to guess it would be that there is no fluid but he hasnt destroyed any gear syet cause when it does work it works fine, like there isnt any lubrication so sometimes the slider cant engage the gears and it might be stalling from high resistanc ein the torque converter due to lakc of lubrication, thoguhts, ideas?

Is this a bonneville?

Fluid and filter change are definantly a good start in this case.

Drop the pan....same way you'd drain the trans.

My dad changed out about 7 litres worth of burnt, black tranny fluid in the 4T60 last week... world'* of an improvement in performance.

Ht did it by siphoning/sucking fluid out the dipstick hole. It takes some time, but sure as hell beats dropping the pan. Unfortunately, the filter hasn't been changed, it should've been.

iirc from the classes i took in high school. many many beers and yrs ago. the tranny filter shouldnt have to be replaced. since the way the filter works is it sucks the fluid through the filter. and when you shut your car off the fliud drops back into the pan along with what ever dirt that was in the fluid.

ok now i know somone is gonna say something on this one. but hey this is what i membered from school.
