I think this is a visual representation of what people are trying to say:

Both lines represent cars with the same gear ratio and will therefore both redline at the same speed. The blue car has more power and will reach this (same) speed faster than the green car.
You could look at it this way too - both lines represent the same car. The green line is stock and the blue line is after power mods. The top speed is still limited, although after the mods it (blue line) will reach top speed in a shorter time.

Alright...to go back to the original purpose of this thread.

From my rooommate since I'm too lazy to do it myself...the speed for a certain RPM can be calculated with:

{RPM / (gear ratio * final ratio) * [(tire diameter in inches * pi) / (12in/ft)]} / (5280ft/mile) * 60min/hr = mph for that particular rpm

so assuming he'* running a 30 in slick on the car...

7200 * 1 / 4.3 * (30 * 3.14) / 12 / 5280 *60 = 149.3 mph...this doesn't account for converter slip

So, either he'* running larger than a 30" tire, his second gear is overdriven instead of 1:1, or he'* just spouting BS.

It'* definitely possible for him to hit that speed with a 33" tire on there. I do know of plenty of cars that run 8'* on <30" tires though.

7200 rpmx 33 inches = 237600 4.30 gear x 336 = 1444.8 237600divided by 14448 =164.451 mph there your answer

Yep. To know for sure, ask him what tire he runs on the car.

and to turn a 15x33 inches tires at 7200 rpm you need lots of horsepower to reach that in top gear

The spelling, grammar, and thought organization in this thread is a disaster.

Moving to the Lounge.
