JimmyFloyd, this is definitely a 1997. We even have the original window sticker with the options on it! I've run the VIN, and everything matches.
WJ, we got lucky. My husband'* boss said he wanted to see my husband in a vehicle that got more than 13mpg (my pickup truck). We only gave up on the cleaning because it got too late at night (should have started earlier! :p )

Man! That is a sweet deal, I'm jealous. I got a sweet deal on my GP, too. Not $800, though.
The interior looks like it could use some TLC. I got lucky and found a car that was so well maintained, I couldn't find a single scratch or nick anywhere, and the interior looks like it was brand new.
