Yea, but the person can play dumb, but the shop should know. The shop should know the rules and laws of that town, like whenever you get tint or something, they should tell you the legal ammount, then its up to you to decide if it was right or not. These people on the show had no option on what was going to be done to their car, they just knew it was going to be pimp.

The shop was fined because it was advertising it could put TVs into the steering wheels by removing airbags. People were going in requesting to have their airbags replaced with TVs.
It was not fined for something that happened on the show, to someone who didn't know.
I would say the shop was fined because it was advertising it could/would remove the airbags from vehicles.
The feds probably also will fine anyone that has had it done, and it using the car for anything but a show car.

Laws for airbags are just like laws for rails on stairs at your house. THey're there for everyone who will ever use the vehicle, after you get rid of it. What happens to the poor kid who buys the car, see'* the screen and is wow'd but no one mentions, and he doesn't think of the airbags in 10 years?

Wow, that was quite a read. Well, IMO they deserve it. The cars they pump out suck, and I hope that is a slap in the face for them. On a serious note, though.. they shouldn't have done that. I am sure they knew what they were doing, in that disabling the air bag system was illegal. Let alone putting in a TV in the place of it. But they need to be careful how they create the law for this, because they could take a car like mine [which is air bag-less], and put in a TV into it. I have had my steering wheel off, and trust me, it wouldn't take much effort to put in a decent sized screen in mine. Personally, cars are for driving. Music, that'* one thing, because you may be listening to the music, but you aren't watching music. You are watching the road. At least, you should be. I would never put TV screens in my car, never even crossed my mind. Not my cup of tea. That may have an affect on my opinion, because I am kinda biased towards not having TV'* in cars. My dad has a TV in his '85 BMW [in dash, just below HU], and one in his '04 Escalade [in dash nav, but with DVD player]. One thing his Escalade has, is he cannot use the in dash nav while going over 15mph. You can, however use the DVD Player at any point of time.
Just a little advice to all our members. Don't watch TV while driving, it'* stupid, Period.

To reiterate the reason for the fine was for removing the air bag. The TV had nothing to do with it.
Air bags are there for a reason. Do we all know what a HANS device is?
For those who don’t it stands for Head And Neck restraint System. It is required in almost every class of professional racing.
In a head on impact the body is moves forward until the seatbelt stops it. At this point the head tries to continue forward. This places great stress on the neck and can cause the base of the skull to fracture and pull away. This is very often fatal.
The HANS device is designed to prevent this. However most of us don’t wear 5-point harnesses, helmets and HANS devices in our streetcars; this is where the airbag comes in.
The air bag keeps the head more inline with the rest of the body to prevent the above injuries.

EXCELLENT explanation, Greyhare. I agree 100%. Minor injuries can even be caused by seatbelts and airbags, but they are nothing compared to the potential injury/death that can occur without those devices installed and used properly.
